Selling Online 2: Build Relationships

In last week’s post you learnt that your website and social media can really help you sell. For successful sales, you need to gather as many people as possible who have potential interest in your business and develop your relationship with them. For an online business the classic way to do this is to offer something free, yet valuable, in return for a person sharing their contact details with you. You could offer a discount voucher or a special report with expert advice.

Once you have started gathering contact details, build ways to stay in touch with your customers. A short weekly email with one point of focus is probably better than a long complex newsletter that you can only produce every few months. Aim to offer regular news, tips and advice. People will come to value your communications and you can put in a more ‘sales-y’ approach every third newsletter, aiming to convert people to buy.
