Every website owner should be aware of copyright issues and how they impact on your site particularly when publishing information, text and images online. You own the copyright for everything original that you write, whether you use the copyright symbol or not. There is no need to ‘register’ your site content for copyright purposes.
Similarly, everything that you read and look at online on other people’s sites is copyrighted unless it states otherwise. Also be aware that photographs are copyrighted. If you want to include photographs on your website you should buy photographs online from a source such as www.istockphoto.com or have your own photographs taken.
If you use a piece of text from somebody else’s site and credit it to them you are still breaking the law if you haven’t received permission: always ask permission if you want to quote someone.
